The Fish Oil Hair Connection - The Effects of Fish Oil on Hair

Like our skin, the hair is also an indicator of a person's health. From our hair, we can determine if our diet is healthy or not. More than fifty percent of the population today has weak and dry hair due to omega 3 fish oil deficiency. Thus, we can conclude that there is such thing as a fish oil hair connection. With this being said, the overall appearance of our hair can be improved via a healthy diet.

Luckily, there are ways to determine whether we are suffering from omega 3 fish oil deficiency. From the appearance of our hair, we can say if we have sufficient amount of omega 3 fatty acids or not. However, based on our skin, we might have a deficiency of omega 3 fatty acid if our skin looks scaly and dry.

Since our nails are the extension of our skin, we can also tell whether we have fatty acid imbalance or not based on the looks of our nails. Brittle or soft nails and unmanageable hair could signify fatty acid imbalance.

A good hairdresser has the ability to determine if a person has poor nutrition from the looks of the hair. Basically, dull and lifeless looking hair signifies poor nutrition. Due to an unhealthy diet, our hair growth will be affected significantly. So to improve the quality of our hair, a good diet with fish oil is highly recommended.

For our general health, we need to consume a sufficient amount of omega 3 daily. They are very important in our diet. These fatty acids are known to improve your cholesterol level, increase good cholesterol and HDL, prevent arrhythmia and reduce arteries inflammation. In turn, it can save us from possible heart attack and stroke. From different research, it was found that societies with high omega 3 in their diet have lower risk of diabetes and heart diseases.

Typically, omega 3 is found mainly in fish such as tuna, mackerel and salmon. They are also found in nuts, flax seeds, dark leafy green vegetables and some vegetables oils. But, the best sources of these fatty acids are the fish and fish oil supplements.

In general, omega 3 fatty acids are very essential for healthy looking hair. Omega 3 fatty acids have three main nutrients: Alpha Linolenic Acid (ALA), Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA), and Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA). With these nutrients, the appearance of our hair can be improved significantly. Scientifically speaking, we need to improve our diet with fish oil to balance out body.
