Foods to Keep on the Menu When Dieting

Keeping carbohydrates in your diet such as bread, helps boost chemicals such as serotonin in the brain. Serotonin can help you feel calm and happy and also give you more energy. This way you feel happier and more in control and then have fewer cravings and eat less. Therefore, keeping carbohydrates in your diet actually helps control weight loss. It is important however to remember to control portion sizes for any foods while dieting.

Another important food to eat while dieting is pasta. It is a food that is high in liquids and helps keep you feel full longer and feel more satisfied. The same as bread, pasta helps cut down on cravings and you will want to eat less and less often. Boiled or baked potatoes are a resistant starch and this means the body creates fatty acids and not allow the body to burn carbohydrates. If it cannot burn carbohydrates, it will burn fat instead.

One food that many people may not think is good to eat while on a diet is cheese. This food is rich in calcium and actually helps the body to burn fat and calories. It is important however to cut down on portion sizes and try to choose lighter cheeses in order to stay healthier. Another food that people think they have to cut out when dieting is chocolate. However, this is the most commonly craved food and allowing your body to have some of what you want will cut down on binge eating. This will save your diet and allow you to keep losing weight. Dark chocolate is healthier and will satisfy more cravings than other types of chocolate.

It is hard to stay on a diet and to continue losing weight when we get cravings or feel like we have to cut out our favorite foods. Cutting out certain foods may not be the answer. Watching how much we eat and watching what we buy may actually help us better stay on our diets and successfully lose weight. This will make us feel better about ourselves and help us to stay healthier in the long run.
